In the heart of the Hautes Alpes, our association “Les Villages des Jeunes” has been managing, livening up and renovating the reception centre of the Faï since 1990. It has been a former agriculture domain situated at an altitude of 1000 meters where fruit trees and lavender used to be cultivated.
At le Faï, from April to December, the association organises inclusion projects for local people who are faced with social and professional difficulties and host teenagers and young adults experiencing family, health or professional difficulties in order to give them a possibility to get professional experience. In the summer, the Faï is also a place where professional artists and musicians come to work in and with this extraordinary place. Together, they create and perform at the yearly festivals that take place at the Faï. The European youth exchanges organised at the Faï contribute to make this place something “extra”, where people in different ages, from different countries and cultures, employees and volunteers, artists and tourists, live and work together for some days or several months.
For 10 days, in the middle of the mountains, the group will share the daily life of the Faï hosting centre with people from different countries. In this context, we propose to experience our bodies as social, artistic, political and poetic tools. With clown and dance workshops, meditations, improvisations and moments of practice in the nature, we will experiment body sensations. We will reflect on the impact of bodywork on our relationships, how it transforms our experience and how we care for each other. Through non- formal education activities, we will reflect on issues of gender, discrimination and social inclusion. During the exchange we will invite people with special needs to take part in certain activities. Volunteers will participate in the creation of body workshops. At the end of the exchange, the participants will propose a presentation of their work. This will take the form of their choice: a performance, workshops for people with special needs, an event on a theme of their choice, etc. This educational approach will contribute to the development of collective intelligence, critical thinking, concrete action, initiative and active citizenship.
The old buildings of the Faï farm have been converted into small flats and group accommodations. Participants will be accommodated in bedrooms of 3 to 6 people and will have at their disposal all the facilities of the hosting centre (dining room, kitchen, showers and toilets).
For the duration of the exchange the group will live autonomously. The daily tasks (meals, cleaning etc) are shared by all volunteers.
You will organise your free time and leisure activities according to the expectations of the group, in terms of budget, time and leisure activities available. As a result, you will plan and carry out leisure activities together in the area around the project location. It is up to each of you to play an active role in the life of the camp in a way that is comfortable for you and for the group as a whole These opportunities can be very diverse (regional tourism, local events, residents’ meetings, green tourism, etc.) It is the responsibility of all participants to organise their free time and to participate in the group’s dynamic. The nearest towns are : Gap (40 km), Grenoble (100 km), Sisteron (60 km), Marseille (200 km).
The youth exchange will be led by a facilitator (expert in body work, clowning and non formal education), the permanent staff, and with the help of the group leaders.
Participants should be aged 18 to 30. There is no age limit for group leaders. The group will be composed of 25 persons from 5 different nationalities. Each group is composed of 5 participants and 1 leader. No specific skills are required to take part in this project, just a strong motivation and curiosity to experience a multicultural collective life, body art and walking in the mountains. Participants having experience in this field and willing to share their knowledge are welcome! Please note that other groups will live with you at the Faï at the same time: volunteers, teenagers, permanents, workers…
The language used during the exchange will depend on the group and the capacities of each volunteer, but English and French are the common languages on these projects.
