Project Overview

“Estiu a la Plaça” is a dynamic summer volunteering project aimed at strengthening community bonds, promoting social inclusion, and celebrating cultural diversity. Hosted in Badalona, a vibrant coastal city near Barcelona, the project invites young people from across Europe to co-create a festival-like community atmosphere in public spaces, especially for youth and families.

This project is part of the VEIL-CORPS initiative funded by the European Union through the European Solidarity Corps High Priority Area programme.

Volunteer Tasks

As a volunteer, you will take part in planning and leading a range of creative and recreational activities for the local community, including:

  • Art workshops

  • Circus and street performances

  • Music and cultural showcases

  • Sports and movement-based games

  • Intercultural learning sessions

These activities are held outdoors and open to the public, encouraging intergenerational exchange and peer-to-peer learning. Volunteers also help promote youth leadership and support local youth in taking active roles in their community.

A special highlight of the program will be helping to organize a large community dinner to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the host organization.

Accommodation & Meals

Volunteers will stay in a local primary school equipped with:

  • Gender-separated rooms (8–12 beds, mixed nationalities)

  • Separate toilets

  • Solar showers

  • Free Wi-Fi

  • Convenient location near the activity sites and metro

As it’s a public facility, respecting the school’s internal rules is mandatory. Any serious violation could result in removal from the project.

  • Breakfast: prepared by the group

  • Lunch & Dinner: provided at local restaurants or a canteen

  • Special diets and allergies must be communicated in advance via a participant form

About the Location: Badalona

Badalona combines Mediterranean charm with a rich cultural and historical background. During your free time, you can enjoy:

  • Long sandy beaches and scenic promenades

  • Roman ruins of Baetulo and the iconic Pont del Petroli

  • Quick access to Barcelona to visit Sagrada Familia, Park Güell, the Gothic Quarter, and more

Badalona offers a relaxed, community-focused experience while being just minutes away from the energy and culture of one of Europe’s most exciting cities. Public transportation is reliable and connects well with both local and regional destinations.

Requirements

To participate, volunteers must:

  • Be between 18–30 years old and reside in an eligible ESC country

  • Provide a clean criminal record certificate

  • Be registered on the European Youth Portal

  • Be available for the full project duration (4–19 July 2025)

  • Not exceed 12 months of cumulative ESC volunteering experience

We’re looking for individuals who are:

  • Interested in working with children and young people

  • Empathetic, responsible, and patient

  • Creative and motivated to organize workshops or outdoor activities

  • Comfortable with teamwork and intercultural cooperation

  • Proactive in contributing to community life

Hosting Organization: La Rotllana

La Rotllana is a non-profit organization based in Badalona that has been working in non-formal education and socio-community development since 1990. The organization promotes:

  • Social inclusion

  • Gender equality

  • Respect for diversity

La Rotllana offers youth-focused opportunities in education, culture, and sports, supporting personal and social growth through volunteering and active participation.

Volunteers collaborate on projects ranging from leisure education to international solidarity, all aimed at creating stronger, more inclusive communities.

Coordinating Organization: Informagiovani (Italy)

The project is coordinated by Associazione Informagiovani, an Italian non-profit promoting:

  • Human and civil rights

  • Youth information and participation

  • Active citizenship through volunteering

  • Social inclusion of youth with fewer opportunities

Informagiovani coordinates a European youth network across 14 countries, supporting both local and international volunteering as a tool for change.
