Volunteer Activities

During the project, volunteers will take part in activities focused on sustainability, environmental care, and community living:

  • Light maintenance work on the grounds

  • Gardening: harvesting produce for meals, transplanting for autumn

  • Caring for a rose garden and an agroforestry orchard

  • Water management and recovery to optimize consumption

  • Dry stone wall restoration

The camp is perfect for young people who love nature, hiking, and hands-on tasks.

Accommodation & Food

Volunteers will be hosted in tents provided by the local organization. The first week takes place near a wooded area at “La Tabacca”, where simple outdoor showers and dry toilets are available. The second week will be held at “Tutti giù per terra”.

Meals will be cooked together, and a shared kitchen is available.

Please note: the nearest village, Genoa Voltri, is about a 50-minute walk from the farm.

Location & Free Time

In your free time, you can explore:

  • The Ligurian Sea

  • Nearby small lakes

  • The historic city of Genoa

About the Organizers

This camp is a collaboration between IBO Italy, the ecological-social farm “La Tabacca”, and the social farm “Tutti giù per terra”, located in Voltri (Genoa, 380 m altitude).

“La Tabacca” is a rural ecological settlement that promotes environmental education, sustainable living, and local community engagement. Built using ecological design principles, the site includes:

  • Solar panels and straw-bale insulation

  • Water-saving systems including a phyto-purification tank and canalization

  • Dry toilets and sustainable farming techniques

“Tutti giù per terra” is a social farm created from a shared dream of returning to the land and working outdoors. It offers:

  • An accessible vegetable garden for all abilities

  • A sensory path to stimulate all senses

  • A pet therapy farm

  • A workshop for processing farm-grown products

This project is part of a European Solidarity Corps initiative called “VEIL-Corps”, focusing on agroecology, biodiversity, and sustainable forest and land management. Volunteers will engage with the local and urban communities through hands-on ecological work.
