Interculture in Confiscated Spaces
1–16 November 2025 | Caltanissetta, Sicily, Italy
Join an impactful short-term European Solidarity Corps (ESC) project supporting environmental sustainability, community development, and intercultural exchange!
About the Project
The project is organized by I Girasoli, a non-profit association working for the inclusion of refugees and asylum seekers in Sicily. Their mission is to promote social integration, human rights, and environmental responsibility.
During the project, volunteers will work in Mandorleto House (the “almonds’ house”) — a space once confiscated from organized crime and now turned into a hub for positive community action.
The volunteers’ tasks will focus on maintaining and developing the ecological space. Activities include:
-
Dividing the garden and poultry areas
-
Repairing fences and pathways
-
Harvesting olives and producing olive oil and natural skincare products
-
Organizing environmental clean-ups together with local schools and associations
-
Preparing an intercultural dinner with young refugees from the Mazzarino center
-
Participating in an ecological bike ride and creating a mural honoring victims of the Mafia
Through these actions, volunteers will contribute to sustainability, intercultural dialogue, and raising awareness about social justice issues.
This project is part of the European Solidarity Corps’ High Priority Area “VEIL-CORPS” and is funded by the European Union.
