Indonesia has a big food problem: while some families cannot afford enough to eat, millions of tons are wasted every year. In Semarang, over half of the city’s 1,200 tons of daily waste is food. Let’s change that!

Theme (Climate and sustainable lifestyle):
Volunteers will learn about different types of food waste and the methods to overcome this issue. They will also explore traditional Indonesian cooking and experience community life on Java Island.
Volunteers will learn about different types of food waste and the methods to overcome this issue. They will also explore traditional Indonesian cooking and experience community life on Java Island.
Volunteers will take part in hands-on and educational activities:
- Rescue & Collection: Gather “ugly but edible” fruits and vegetables from local farms (and market)
- Communal Cooking: Prepare meals together with local women’s groups
- Meal Distribution: Share food with vulnerable groups such as low-income families, orphanages, and shelters
- Youth Workshops: Lead creative games, art, and storytelling activities on the value of food with children and youth
- Digital Campaign: Create a digital campaign to inspire action against food waste
Requirement:
Certificate of Good Behavior from your home authorities (we work with children/youth). No special skills or motivation letters needed – just kindness and energy.
