The main objectives
Multiculturalism and diversity among young people are vital elements in shaping a harmonious and prosperous society. With “Connecting People”, JCW vzw (Youth, Culture and Science vzw) wants to create more understanding for each other in a society that is becoming increasingly diverse. Our aim is not only to increase understanding of cultural differences, but also to highlight shared aspects. During the week, we explore different themes around the idea of connecting individuals across borders. Each day is dedicated to a different theme.
Each participating country will also give an introduction to a different theme linked to multiculturalism, diversity, conflict, borders, coexistence, … Each evening, we will collect feedback and reflect as a group on how to transform the essence of the day into something that can stay with the participants.

Day Activity
Each organization should provide an activity of 1-2 hours. The content and form of the activity may be entirely of your choosing. So this can be a game, a quiz, or something creative, …. Possible themes are physical (country) borders, conflicts at borders, and crossing borders, … If you want a particular theme, you may email your choice to me (sofie@jcw.be). That way there is not too much overlap between different activities.
The youth leader can do both of these activities with the participants. That way they can bring their input on this exchange.
Evening activity
Each country must also provide an evening activity. The participants present their country through a game, quiz… After that, we will have an evening with some typical products from the country. For this food, you can use the kitchen.
By having intercultural evenings the participants will learn more about their home country, as well as the partner countries. The participants will also get to practice speaking and acting in front of people as well as presenting in English.
Accommodation
During the international exchange, we stay in House 1 of Fabiola’s holiday home in Maasmechelen. The rooms as well as sanitary facilities are shared.
The holiday home is located in Maasmechelen, Limburg province. Unfortunately, getting around by public transport is not so easy in this region. For those who wish to do so, we try to arrange transport to the holiday home from Genk train station for a maximum of €20 per person per trip. We will try to keep this as cheap as possible.
If you want to arrive in Belgium earlier or leave later, that is possible, but keep in mind that any additional accommodation or transport will be at your own expense.
Travel allowances
Estonia: standard travel 275€ or green travel 320€
Participation fee
There is a participation fee of €180 per participant for the whole week. This is to help us cover the costs of the project and the food… and ensure high-quality activities. The participation fee of €180 (only for participants, not for the youth leader) for all participants can be collected by you as an organization and then paid to us as one amount.
