Project Overview

“Another World is Possible” is a European Solidarity Corps project offering volunteers the opportunity to support sustainable agriculture and community development in the Amarante region of Portugal. Volunteers will gain hands-on experience in organic farming, deepen their environmental awareness, and promote eco-friendly living practices.

Activities will take place across several organic farms, including Quinta Vila Caiz, Equação CRL, Mimos de Arnoia, and Quinta da Palmeirinha. Tasks include grape and seasonal produce harvesting, planting, weeding, composting, and preparing natural fertilizers. Volunteers will also collaborate with local farmers to exchange knowledge on green practices and support sustainable food systems.

This project is part of the ESC High Priority Area “VEIL-CORPS” and is funded by the European Union under the European Solidarity Corps programme.

Accommodation and Meals

Volunteers will stay at the Casa da Juventude de Amarante (Youth Center), accommodated in gender-separated dormitories with four beds each, reserved exclusively for the group. Facilities include internet access, workspaces, free laundry services, and provision of bed linen and towels.

Meals:

  • From Monday to Saturday, vegetarian meals with protein-rich options are served at the center’s restaurant.

  • One non-vegetarian dinner is offered each week.

  • On Sundays, participants receive a €20 food allowance (reimbursed upon receipt submission) and may prepare their own meals in the center’s kitchen.

  • Any specific dietary requirements should be communicated in advance.

Free Time and Cultural Activities

Workdays generally run from 9:00 AM to 4:00 or 5:00 PM, leaving evenings free for leisure. Weekends are also free, allowing volunteers to explore Amarante and the surrounding area. Additionally, a cultural visit to Porto is organised on the first Sunday to provide participants with insights into the city’s rich cultural heritage.

Participant Requirements

  • Strong interest in sustainability, organic farming, and environmental protection.

  • No prior experience is required, but volunteers must be eager to learn and fully engage in activities.

  • A collaborative, inclusive, and supportive attitude is essential.

  • Volunteers must be physically prepared for outdoor work and open to intercultural experiences.

  • Full availability for the entire project duration is mandatory.

  • Applicants must reside in an eligible country and ensure that their total participation in ESC volunteering activities does not exceed 12 months.
