Introduction

Kindergarten Punamütsike is a municipality kindergarten in Võru. There are 11 groups in the kindergarten: three groups for kids ages from 1,6 to 3 and eight for children aged from 3 to 7. There are 54 employees. In one group there are children with various special needs. The kindergarten has over 20 years’ experience working with such group. 

The kindergarten has more than 40-year history and besides regular state program it follows traditions like days with family, sport activity days, visiting theatres and concerts, hikes and excursions during the year. It is the only kindergarten in Võru to teach swimming as it has its own on-site pool. 

The staff members are good friends and at times enjoy activities together such as treks, parties and organising interesting and exciting events. Many of the staff participates in organising Võru City Council events. The kindergarten holds classes for adults to learn the zither, an Estonian folk musical instrument. 

Location 

Võru County with its hills and valleys and its forests is one of the most beautiful regions in Estonia. The town of Võru (founded in 1784) is situated in South-East of Estonia, on the bank of lake Tamula, It is the centre of Võru County. The distance to capital city Tallinn is 280 km but to second biggest town Tartu only 69 km from Võru. 

There are one high school, 2 primary schools, a sport-school, a music-school and many hobby groups, a library and a sporthall, also other clubs and pubs in Võru. 

In summer the best place for swimming is lake Tamula or numerous other lakes around the Võru. In winter there are nice hills where is good chances to skiing and snowboarding. There is also possibility to do extreme biking, hiking and other sport. 

Võru has had already few ESV/ESC projects and this will give possibility to get more information about different spheres of voluntary work and to spend time together. 

Work tasks

Each week in the kindergarten is different, there are different topics and different events that take place. Volunteer takes part in various events: festivals, exhibitions, tours, theme weeks, charity events, etc. 

The activities in the afternoon/evening depend mainly on volunteer’s own interests. It is also possible for her to take part in folk dance lessons, aerobics, women choir, mandolin orchestra etc. The possibility to go to swimming pool or a sport centre. There are possibilities for biking, hiking and other sports also. 

Requirements for the volunteer 
  • Motivated and ready to work with small kids 
  • Motivated to learn a new language 
  • Friendly, positive and open-minded 
  • Active and helpful 

Interest in music and arts are an advantage. 

PS: the hosts would be especially happy to receive a volunteer also speaking German, as the teachers in the group have both previously learned German! 🙂
