GENERAL INFORMATION

The Workcamp Coordinator Seminar is an international training opportunity aimed at preparing participants for the coordination and leadership of SCI workcamps. The seminar will provide you with the essential tools, knowledge, and confidence to coordinate a voluntary service project in an intercultural setting.

Through a combination of interactive workshops, group discussions, experiential learning activities, and practical sessions, you will explore what it means to be a responsible, inclusive, and effective coordinator. You will also gain a deeper understanding of SCI’s values and methodology, with a strong focus on peace education, intercultural learning, environmental sustainability, and social justice.

  • Arrival: 28 May 2025 (afternoon)

  • Departure: 2 June 2025 (after noon)

  • Location: Bad Nauheim, Germany

Full-time participation is mandatory. Please make sure your travel plans allow you to arrive on time and stay until the end of the seminar. Leaving early may result in loss of eligibility for Erasmus+ funding.

What to Expect

During the seminar, you will live in a communal setting with other participants, reflecting the values and structure of a typical SCI workcamp. You will:

  • Live simply and sustainably, sharing space and daily responsibilities

  • Cook and eat meals together in small rotating groups

  • Take part in creating a respectful and welcoming group dynamic

  • Collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures

This immersive environment is designed to promote mutual understanding, team spirit, and a real sense of international solidarity—core elements of the SCI experience.

Learning Objectives & Content

The seminar will be facilitated by two experienced SCI volunteers who have coordinated and supported numerous workcamps. The training programme is structured to gradually build your confidence and skills, covering:

  • SCI’s mission, history, and approach to voluntary service and peacebuilding

  • Group dynamics and tools to build inclusive and respectful teams

  • Effective leadership styles and how to adapt them to different situations

  • Techniques for conflict prevention and resolution in intercultural settings

  • Creative and practical methods for peace education within workcamps

  • Organisational and technical aspects of camp coordination (e.g. scheduling, safety, logistics, managing expectations)

  • Personal reflection on climate justice, sustainability, and social justice in the context of volunteering

The programme encourages critical thinking, co-creation, and peer learning. There will also be informal evening activities to further strengthen the group and allow for cultural exchange and connection.

Who Can Participate?

The seminar is open to participants from various countries who are interested in coordinating a workcamp or engaging in youth work and intercultural learning. You do not need to have prior coordination experience, but some familiarity with volunteering or international youth projects is welcome.

We aim to create a diverse and inclusive group of around 15 to 20 participants, with different backgrounds, perspectives, and motivations.
