Volunteering in Sicily

Join a powerful 7-week volunteering journey through the European Solidarity Corps aimed at supporting children and youth in vulnerable communities across Sicily. The HANDS project (Harvesting, Analysing and Nourishing Development Strategies) uses non-formal education to bring change where it’s needed most.

What’s the Project About?

Volunteers will work in small action groups across four Sicilian towns: Mussomeli, Prizzi, Milena, and Riesi. Activities include:

  • Supporting disadvantaged youth, children, migrants, and people with disabilities
  • Designing and delivering non-formal education workshops
  • Conducting surveys, interviews, and needs analysis in the local communities
  • Developing and running awareness campaigns about inclusive education
  • Creating content like videos, infographics & social media posts
Project Structure
  • Welcome Training: Montedoro
  • Mid-project switch: Volunteers change locations to work in 2 different areas
  • Final Evaluation: Montedoro
  • Activities: 5 days/week (min. 6 hrs/day) + 2 days off/week
  • 3 extra vacation days included
Key Objectives
  • Innovate educational methods to reach excluded youth
  • Build stronger educational networks in Sicily
  • Promote inclusion through international collaboration
  • Engage local communities through practical, hands-on activities
What’s Provided
  • Accommodation for the entire stay (with kitchen access)
  • Food allowance to prepare meals individually
  • Daily allowance: €6/day (total €312 for 52 days)
  • Travel reimbursement:
    • 100–499 km → up to €211
    • 500–1999 km → up to €309
    • 2000–2999 km → up to €395
  • Green travel option available (ask first!)
  • Insurance coverage via Henner (ESC + EHIC combo)
Who Can Apply?
  • Age 18–30
  • Motivated to work with youth, education & communities
  • Flexible, curious, independent & team-oriented
  • Registered in European Solidarity Corps
  • Able to commit for the full duration (20 May–10 July 2025)
Important Dates
  • Arrival: 20 May 2025 (you may arrive on 19 May, at your own cost)
  • Activity period: 21 May – 9 July
  • Departure: 10 July 2025 (or 11 July at your own cost)
