Project
Catania Film Fest is a young festival which will celebrate its tenth edition this year. The festival event is organized by the Catania Film Festival Association, the Municipality of Catania and the University of Catania, sponsored by the Sicily Region. In recent years, the festival has mainly focused on promoting European independent movies. It promotes international productions with an official selection of more than 30 movies and 30 short movies. Starting from this edition, we will introduce a new film section called “Catania Mediterranea”. It will be an occasion to revisit the connection between this region’s cultures. With our cinema review we would like to think about Sicily as a link between continental Europe and Mediterranean countries, to approach our culture as a part of a larger history; as a summary of Mediterranean cultures.
The work
Volunteers will be at first involved in logistic activities: we will need to set up the locations with screens and chairs, manage people entrance and clean the space once each film ends. We would also need their support every time we need it, especially during the week of the festival. There will also be an info point at “Casa di Quartiere” where volunteers will support. During the festival activities will run all day and volunteers will be divided into groups to support all processes (09:00-23:00). During the other day volunteers will work and take part in the activities between 09:00 alle 18:00 If they fancy, it would be possible to participate in activities and workshops organized during the festival.
Accommodation and Food: Volunteers will be hosted at “Lumia” and “Curtigghiu” apartments in Catania city centre, close to festival locations (http://www.tambu.biz/). Apartments are provided with kitchen, so the volunteers will be able to cook by themselves; the festival organization will provide food items. The apartments are provided with bed sheets. Guests will be in charge of cleaning and clearing the spaces.
Location
Catania is a city of 350.000 inhabitants in the Ionian Sea, across from Greece. It is situated on the eastern side of Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. Each part of the city is connected by bus and metro. Terminal: The closest international airport is Catania Fontanarossa and it is connected to Catania central station, either for train and bus, by a h24 daily shuttle.
