Activity description
The volunteer will work based on their competences, skills and knowledge on activities that fall within the existing departments of the Associação Juvenil de Deão.
- Project Department. Support in project work. facilitating activities, supporting meetings with partners, preparation of activities, etc;
- Community School. The volunteer will be involved in supporting the Community School of the association, providing support to the teachers and developing under their guidance, the daily activities with children and young people (study time, arts, body language, science, computer, free time, etc.); In additions, developing the AJD community garden; rethinking AJD’s outdoor space with stimuli for learning by playing through non-formal education; developing ideas to make the Playroom more “Green”.
- Communication and Image Department. The volunteer will receive adequate language training and he/she will contribute to the Newsletter “O Caroça” and to the blog.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
- Pocket Money for the period of activity has an amount of 5 euros per day.
- Meals: lunch on working days will be provided by AJD. For other lunches, dinners, breakfasts and snacks the volunteer will be given the value of EUR 100,00 per month, by bank transfer.
- Accommodation: AJD will be responsible for the payment of the monthly rent.
- Travel on public transport: AJD will be responsible for the acquisition and payment of the monthly pass that is required in the public transport journeys between Viana do Castelo and the local activities.
Training during the activity
Upon arrival the host/coordinating organisation will ensure that volunteer attend an on-arrival training and later a mid-term training. In a similar way, during the performance of his/her tasks, the volunteer will receive support, guidance and supervision by the monitor/supervisor who is responsible for each activity. The host/coordinating organisation will ensure that volunteer have a free language training throughout the whole service.
Participant profile
- Interest and knowledge about communication design, web design, blogging and social media. It is also valuable to have good communication skills and will to organise events for the community;
- Interest to work with children and young people. Showing interest in foreign cultures and having this experience at this stage in his/her life will help him/her to make decisions for the future, both in terms of employment and education/training;
- Interest to work with old people;
- Age: 18 – 30 years old.
