Join our volunteering project and learn about manual work and social work in France!
The project
Compagnons Bâtisseurs is an association that helps people to improve their living conditions by renovating houses. As a volunteer, you will participate in renovating activities and you will take part in group activities related to housing. During your stay, our team will help you get used to the activities and the daily life in France.
The work
Working with the support of the organisation staff (technical mentors), the volunteers will participate in technical works (painting, insulation, plumbing, electricity works, toilets installation, room creation…) to improve people’s home. The inhabitants are people who are facing social and economic difficult and challenging situations whose the improvement of their living conditions.
There will be a lot of collective workshop as well involving inhabitants and related to DIY.
Although the main purpose is the carrying out of the technical work, the activity has therefore an important social and human aspect that makes the intervention different from a professional one. Furthermore, most of the time the volunteers share the lunch (or at least a coffee) with the family which provides a valuable time to get to know each other and may create strong links based on trust and sharing.
When, and where ?
You can apply to our project at anytime of the year, and different hosting places will be available according to when you want to come volunteer with us. Our volunteering opportunities last between 2 weeks and 2 months.
Who can apply ?
Every person between 18 and 30 years old can apply to our projects. No prior experience in renovation is needed. Any motivated person is welcome !
Conditions
Transport to France: you will receive money in order to pay for the flight to France and back to your country.
House: during your stay, you will be hosted freely in a house with other volunteers of the association (with your own room), or in a single appartment.
Daily allowance: You will receive an amount to cover your food expenses, as well as pocket money (6 euros a day).
Medical insurance: You will be provided a medical insurance during your stay in order to pay for medical expenses if needed.
Our next vacancies are
- 2 months in Paris, (June and July)
- 2 months in Tours (May and June)
- 1 or 2 months in Rennes (June and July)
