About GHD
Gönüllü Hizmetler Derneği’s roots go back to 1959, when the first international voluntary work camp organized in Turkey by Incentive Association for Voluntary Work Camps (Türkiye Gönüllü Çalışma Kamplarını Teşvik Derneği) which was established by a group of college students. The name has been changed to “Voluntary Services Association” (Gönüllü Hizmetler Derneği ) by 1970s.Gönüllü Hizmetler Derneği is active in voluntary field for 38 years. Our main activity area is short term international voluntary work camps. We send around 400 Turkish volunteers to 86 countries all over the world and receive around 200 foreign volunteers in our short term voluntary projects in Turkey.
Gönüllü Hizmetler Derneği is an active in EU – Youth Programs since 2000 as a partner. We have got our first accreditation in 2007 as soon as Turkey became a program country. Gönüllü Hizmetler Derneği is accredited as coordinating – sending and hosting organisation. We are promoting EVS among young people and acting as an information and counselling center. Gönüllü Hizmetler Derneği, sends and receives participants for youth exchanges as well. We are regularly sending around 15-20 participants annually for different youth exchange projects, trainings or seminars.
Camp selection
1) GHD–01 – TEACH BY DARDANELLES CANAKKALE

Local partner is a high school focused on Social Sciences.
Work: Volunteers will be doing non–formal English speaking activities with 14–17 years old high school pupils.
Accommodation and food: The accommodation will be in the dorms of the campus. You don’t need to bring any sleeping bag or mat. Toilets and showers are shared. Wi–fi is provided but limited. Food will be served at the campus.
Location & leisure: Canakkale is a seaside city in the north – west of Türkiye. Beach is within walking distance from the campsite. School is surrounded by beautiful nature where you will have the possibility to make excursions and hikes. You can go swimming and also the school administration will organize sightseeing tours to the ancient city of Troy where is near by. Work camp site is safe and secure.
Requirements: Volunteers must be at least 20 years old and agree to share responsibilities together with the group leader. Practising English is the main aim of this camp. Thus creative volunteers with some experience in teaching, outdoor or table games, music, drama, sport will be preferred. A motivation letter should be sent along with the application form. Applicants will be interviewed via Zoom / Skype / WhatsApp before being confirmed.
Meeting point: Volunteers should fly to İstanbul Airport 1 day before and then take an overnight intercity coach to Canakkale in order to reach to the camp site in time on the first day of the camp. Detailed information will be sent with the info sheet after placement.

Local Partner: “Childhood Dreams” is a special project of GHD, designed for disadvantaged children groups aged 10–14.
This camp is sponsored by external funds as well as the funds raised by GHD. All accommodation and food expenses of the disadvantaged children are covered by funds. The project is realised in Afacan Youth Hous ( www.afacan.de ).
We are looking for communicative, talkative, active, children friendly volunteers who are at least 20 years old with some abilities on teaching basic English, any sports like basketball, volleyball, swimming, football, table tennis, etc., chess, arts & crafts, music, dance, drama, in & outdoor group games. Ability of swimming is essential and teaching swimming is preferable. Applicants will be interviewed by the camp managers via Zoom / Skype / WhatsApp before being confirmed. A motivation letter should be send along with the application form. You will share the responsibilities of the leading team to take care a group of kids from the beginning till the end of the camp including the trips outside of the camp as well as all kind of activities during the camp. Please note that you will be dealing with the kids through the given & intensive program all day long. You will spend most of your time with the kids in the camp area with a limited private life. Thus, contact with the locals is very limited; however, you will have contact with the working people in the campsite. Volunteers may have fun together only after the kids go to the bed and the team cover the late, daily staff meeting in the camp. Leaving the camp area is not allowed due to unexpected emergency cases. Teamwork is very essential for this camp. Thus, any volunteer who disagrees with the camp rules and team spirit are asked to leave. Smoking & drinking alcohol is not allowed during the camp at the campsite in front of the kids. Please be aware of the rules before applying.
Work: Counselling a group of children aged between 10–14 years old, leading several activities; mainly swimming for them.
Accommodation and food: In Afacan Youth House, in 2–3 bedded rooms with toilet and shower. Sleeping bags and mats are not necessary. Food will be supplied at the campsite. The counsellors will eat together with the group of children whom they are responsible for. Wi–fi is limited.
Location & leisure: Yenisakran is a provincial town in the city of Izmir by the Aegean Sea, in west of Türkiye. Work camp site is safe and secure.
Requirements: Volunteers must be at least 20 years old. A motivation letter with a pass size photo should complete your application form. Applicants will be interviewed by the camp manager via Zoom / Skype / WhatsApp before being confirmed. Knowing Turkish could be helpful but not necessary.
Meeting point: In Afacan Youth House on the first day of the camp. Please arrange your travel to Izmir Airport. Further arrival details will be on the info sheet. Volunteers will leave the camp on the last day of the camp, after breakfast.

3) GHD– 04 and -11 TEEN LET’S SPEAK ENGLISH –1, 2 SEFERIHISAR – IZMIR

Local Partner: SEKADER is a local NGO aiming to socialize disabled people of the area through water sports. They hired a camping site where they teach swimming, canoeing and diving to disabled people. To raise a fund to cover the costs of the camping site they run a camp to practice English.
Work: This camp is a great chance for teenagers to improve English in an international group with fun. Apart from the light daily work, there will be 3 hours outdoor English lessons, afternoon language activities, night games, cultural night and national dance activities. There will be Turkish youngsters as well in the group. So, you will have a chance to learn a lot about them and you will introduce your culture and country. You will play games altogether. It will be a great camp, great fun. Besides English practices and activities, volunteers will be responsible for the daily cleaning of the site including the area, kitchen, toilet and bathrooms and tents. The work in this camp will be light as practicing English is the main aim of the camp. Volunteers and participants will clean the beach / campsite and do similar activities together.
Accommodation and food: Under tents. Sleeping bag and mat are necessary. Male and female participants will stay in separated tents. If you prefer privacy, you must bring your own tent. Food will be prepared and served by the host with the help of participants.
Location & leisure: Seferihisar is the first slow city (Citta Slow) of Türkiye in the West of Türkiye. Camp site is by the sea and about 10 km. from the town centre. You can swim everyday and also have a chance to try scuba diving at an extra cost. Work camp site is safe and secure.
Requirements: Particpant must be able to communicate in English at least at basic level. Parents are requested to fill in “Authorization and Confirmation” forms after the placement. The forms will be sent with the info sheet.
Meeting point: Participants should fly to Izmir Airport on the first day of the camp, but should land before 17.00 as the camp leader will meet everyone and transfer them altogether to the campsite at 17.00. On the last day of the camp all participants will be transferred to the airport after breakfast. So the return flight must be arranged for the afternoon. More info will be on the info sheet which will be sent to the placed participants.
Extra fee: 260 Euro to cover the cost of accommodation, food and the administrative costs of the local host. Part of the fee will raise a fund for disabled people to camp at the same place after this camp. Extra fee can be paid in cash on arrival.
