About
A unique opportunity for bright and motivated young adult volunteers, young community leaders and social action promoters to explore leadership issues, styles and skills on one of the most interesting courses available.
This is a version of Momentum World’s International Leadership Course, our “flagship” programme which has been running successfully since 2010. This offers a potentially life-changing experience for the participants. Feedback from previous courses has been outstanding, with participants reporting that they have found jobs, new ideas and ambitions, a new level of self-awareness, new motivation to help take organisations forward and (of course) a great new network of friends for life.
The main theme of the course will be about sharing best practice in social action, looking at different types of actions and what works effectively in different contexts. There will be a special focus on intergenerational work and reducing social isolation of individuals and groups in the community, particularly following the Covid-19 pandemic. This will include the theme of mental health. The course will help participants take leadership roles in organisations on return to home communities, as well as give an international outlook to social action.
This will be an intensive, innovative and challenging training programme. Participants will get a deep understanding of their own leadership style, their ambitions and motivations, and the next steps in their personal and career development. Activities include teambuilding exercises, discussions, an in-depth personality profiling exercise, coaching masterclasses, visits to social action organisations in London. There will be visits and meetings with community leaders and social activists as well as political leaders and specialists (if possible including the Houses of Parliament). At the centre of the course will be a team challenge to organise a community activity. At the end of the course, participants will make an action plan for their follow-up activity, which will include preparing a Solidarity Project application (for EU participants) or similar project (UK and partner countries). As always, there will also be an excellent programme of social and intercultural activities.
As well as our own team, trainers will include Paul van Casteren, a renowned executive coach who works with senior personnel of multinational companies (usually at Board Director level) and additional outside speakers from the UK third sector, public administration and politics.
