Establishment of a network of volunteers on traditional agriculture in French-Guyana
6 weeks from 3 of March to 10 of April 2020
Distribution throughout French Guiana
Project description:
It is a project that aims to set up a network of local and international volunteers on traditional agriculture led by Guyanese families. For 6 weeks, volunteers will support Guyanese families in their agricultural project.
Volunteers will be fed and housed by farm families. Thus, they will participate in the daily family life and the villages of reception. The families will take care of the organization of cultural discovery and leisure activities within their village in order to integrate the volunteers.
Group meetings of volunteers placed throughout Guyana will be organized by Peupl’en Harmonie at the beginning, middle and end of the volunteer mission. The purpose of the first meeting will be to sensitize participants on respect for other cultures and prepare them for the mission; the second will serve as a reunion, a moment of sharing experiences between the volunteers; the final grouping will help to reflect and evaluate the project.
Participants:
Each family will welcome 2 volunteers: a French (Guyanese or Metropolitan) and a European.
Peupl’en Harmonie provides for the participation of about 20 volunteers in farming families throughout Guyana (especially on the coast of St Laurent du Maroni in St Georges de l’Oyapock).
The project’s objectives:
To make possible the meeting and the intercultural exchange between the volunteers and the inhabitants of the villages;
Support the local development of villages around traditional village agricultural activity;
Establish a sustainable network of volunteering in agricultural in Guyana;
Facilitate the emergence of joint initiatives aimed at strengthening village agriculture in Guyana;
Promote the transmission of know-how between professionals and volunteers;
Promote the animation and the opening of the villages.
Organization:
On one hand, Peupl’en Harmonie will be responsible for the well-being of the participants and will ensure the smooth running of the volunteer mission through constant contact and travel in each village. The association will also manage the activities of the groups and the movements of the volunteers.
On the other side, each host family will manage the stay of two volunteers. They will provide accommodation and receive an allowance to cover volunteers’ food costs. They will also be responsible for organizing cultural discovery and leisure activities for the volunteers to make them known and integrate them into the life of the village.
