In mythology, Metis was considered the goddess of wisdom and prudence. For the ancients, she was the personification not only of wisdom and prudence but also of the kind of artfulness and vigilance represented by Odysseus among the people and by fox among the animals. “Metis” youth exchange has been created to show young people that it takes solidarity, tolerance, acceptance, inclusion, and communication to be wise and vigilant and thus transform their societies into wise societies. It is addressed to 4 young people between 18-25 years old and 1 team leader per partner country. Through the combination of non-formal education activities and arts, participants will be encouraged and empowered to act against discrimination, racism, sexism, bullying, and exclusion, and therefore become active citizens and bring social change.
-Integration and Social Inclusion;
-Intercultural Learning and Intercultural dialogue;
-Teamwork and Cooperation;
-Use art to raise awareness and enhance solidarity actions among the members of our societies;
-To transform participants into active citizens.
Metis promotes diversity, intercultural and inter-religious dialogue, common values of freedom, tolerance, and respect of human rights and sense of initiative of young people. Through non-formal education activities and all kinds of arts, participants will learn that it is a matter of will to become active citizens and they will be aware of the plethora and very creative ways to move towards this direction.
The group will be formed by 4 young people (aged 18-25) and 1 team leader (no age limit) per country. Participants could be young unemployed people, young people who live in rural areas, young immigrants/refugees, young people who want to bring social change. Participants should be involved in arts either as professionals or as amateurs and should be open to self-empowerment in order to change their societies. They should have a high interest in learning how to raise awareness and bring social change through arts. They should expect to learn more about intercultural communication, inclusion and tolerance and get more non-formal learning tools to combine with their artistic involvement and, through practicing their art (music, drawing, photo & video, dance & theatre), to create their pieces of art that promote among all the respect for ethnic and cultural diversity, social inclusion, tolerance and solidarity in Europe.
The aim of our project is to create a final performance which will be presented in a public space in order to raise awareness on a social issue. For this reason, we need participants involved in the following sectors, either as professionals or as amateurs:
Theatre – Movement
Handicrafts – Costume designers – Scenographers
Musicians (and/or percussion or body percussion)
Audiovisuals (Filmmakers & Photographers)
Team leaders should have an artistic background too.
